Doing Green and Talking Green: Merging Environmental, Educational, Language and Cross-Cultural Learning and Interaction

The overall focus of this cross-cultural learning and interaction is to provide an open dialogue between NIU Students and PYLP participants on issues related to environmental conservation and sustainability while simultaneously learning language and cultural responses on this topic.  All participants will:

  • Learn language and culture through Content-Based Instruction of terminologies and cultural practices related to the environment;
  • Brainstorm ideas to promote environmental conservation and sustainability;
  • Engage in community service learning

To meet these goals, participants will engage in interactive, communicative, and collaborative content-based language activities. They will create bilingual posters to promote environmental awareness.  Community engagement will include a volunteer clean-up activity at Prairie Park.
